Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM)

The ABM Strand is for those who plan to take up business-related courses in higher education or engage in business, entrepreneurship, and other business-related careers. The Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand would focus on the basic concepts of financial management, business management, corporate operations, and all things that are accounted for. ABM can also lead you to careers in management and accounting which could be a sales manager, human resources, marketing director, project officer, bookkeeper, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and a lot more.

ABM is the strand for students who wish to go into college with the following courses: Human Resources, Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Accounting, Business Studies, Marketing, Real Estate, Export Management, Entrepreneurship, and other related courses in this path. This is definitely a suggested strand for those who have their eyes set on creating a business in the future or working in the business sector.

The Accounting, Business, and Management (ABM) strand provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to work in the corporate world. This senior high school strand is for students who want to become business leaders and entrepreneurs. If running a business, talking to clients, and coming up with strategies to earn money sound like your ideal career, then ABM is the right strand for you.

1. Fosters Learner-Centered Programs

With the K-12 program, the students have the freedom to choose among the four K-12 tracks. Their active role in choosing the track aims to teach the values of independence and responsibility. Since they are the ones who chose the track, it’s also part of their duty to study the required subjects and complete the track programs.

2. Provides Direct Path to Careers

One of the goals of K-12 in the Philippines is to lead more students to their chosen careers. Many Filipinos are not able to pursue college due to various reasons. Based on data from the Department of Education (DepEd), close to 4 million students were not able to enroll for the current school year (PNA, 2021). K-12 seeks to bridge this gap through programs that will produce job-ready graduates each year.

ABM Strand Courses for Better Job Opportunities

1. Accountant

Accountancy is one of the most common college courses chosen by students enrolled in the ABM strand. Based on a report, “the Philippines has one of the largest populations of qualified professional accountants among Asian countries.” Even so, it has remained one of the top services in the market required globally. Hence, the demand for accountants is projected to continue flourishing in the coming years. 

2. Project Manager

Every team needs a skilled project manager (PM) to execute plans smoothly. The role of PM industries in every sector is crucial because they lead and manage the entire campaign. They must possess finance and auditing skills to manage project resources. PM careers cover a wide range of industries, which is perfect for anyone who wants to manage small- to large-scale projects.

3. Marketing Executive

For tech-savvy people who want to explore digital ads, the ABM strand can also open careers for them. Similar to PM, these people are also crucial in every campaign. They handle most of the brands’ online and offline campaigns for better leads and sales. According to a recent report, jobs for marketing managers are projected to grow 10% from 2020 to 2030.

4. Entrepreneur

If you want to start your own venture, then the ABM strand fits your goals well. Unlike other office jobs, being an entrepreneur might be more challenging. Since you are the captain of the ship, added skills, grit, and patience are needed for a successful business. So, it’s best to develop this mindset early through ABM strand subjects.

5. Foreign Service Officer

Aside from private companies, the ABM strand courses also prove beneficial to careers in public service and foreign relations. A foreign service officer (FSO) is in charge of research, analytical, and clerical work for state missions. Aside from that, FSOs must also know global laws and ethics to handle each task without causing disputes with other countries.

6. Cabin Crew

If you want to travel the world while working, you can be a cabin crew. Cabin crews are in charge of the entire situation before, during, and after flights. They manage the passengers and ensure a safe flight experience.

MY PERSONAL OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES, SO FAR, IN TAKING THE ABM STRAND

Well, as an ABM Student, I can say that I felt mixed feelings such as being happy, excited, serious, nervous, afraid, and hopeless and I also came to the point that I already lost my self-confidence. Being an ABM student helps you to create memorable experiences that you can capture anytime. As an ABM student, it is not easy. All you need is a lot of patience and effort but behind this, you can achieve unforgettable memories, learnings, and experiences.  Taking an ABM Strand is not easy. You must do different activities you are not familiar with and do not know already and you must know how to face and stand in front of your classmates, and you must learn how to confidently speak in front of your four-sided classroom. But despite all hardships and difficulties, those activities are very helpful and also beneficial for a reason that those activities can really improve your skills. You may learn how to socialize effectively, and how to know your purpose as an ABM Student, and you may also know all of your own weaknesses and how to overcome them. In ABM, you may learn a lot of things. You will be Mathematics friendly, you are free to express everything, you will meet more friends, you can explore Mathematics, you may learn how to manage a business, you can improve your business-minded ability, you may know how to be a successful accountant, you can learn how to effectively manage your own management, your efforts are not worthless and most especially in ABM you will not just be better but you will the best.

Having hard times is just normal for a student. You will encounter many struggles in studying. Those challenges are just challenging your capacities as a student. While taking the ABM strand you might have sleepless nights because of the requirements that you need to pass, you might have headaches because of the mathematical problems that you are repeatedly solving, and you might think to give up because of the stress that you might feel. You can do something about that. These sufferings can help you to be a better person, and these can give you learnings that can help when you enter college. Reading those things might get you afraid to take this strand, please do not. Every hardship there will result in success as an exchange. If it is your dream, do not give up, remember nothing is impossible. Enjoy everything that you do. Do not let your fears take your dreams. Believe in yourself and that you can do it. You can do what you think you cannot. So, are you going to take the ABM strand? In every decision, you made always seek God’s Guidance. Rizal once stated that “Children are the nation’s future”. Do not be discouraged by the difficult things you experience but let them be your inspiration to overcome them.
